Embarking on planning your wedding may seem overwhelming! You are excited about planning your wedding and you have lots of ideas and inspiration photos, not to mention visions in your head that you’ve imaged for years. Some couples tackle the planning process eagerly and others don’t know where to start. Our first piece of advice is to prioritize what is most important to YOU for your special day and then book those vendors first. Secure the experts that are going to create the experience that YOU want to remember most. Maybe it is the food, the music, the photography…we certainly hope it is your flowers! Our second piece of advice, and possibly the most important, is to hire experienced professionals and then TRUST us!

A STARTING POINT

So, where do you start when planning for your wedding flowers? Bring us your ideas, dreams, & inspirations, and let us show you what we can do. That is true regardless of your floral budget. Some couples come to us with only a color scheme. Others come with very specific ideas. You don’t have to figure it out all by yourself. That’s our job! Remember – you are purchasing a SERVICE to provide your wedding flowers, not just a product. Our designers are Floral Artists – and our talented event staff is equally experienced & innovative at executing the details from beginning to end.

The best place for you to start is to explore colors and styles that you really like. We think it is equally important to identify the things that you don’t like too! Then, think about all of those adjectives that describe your dream wedding. Build a collection of photos that have examples so that we can look at them together. Just remember that photos can be deceiving! There are lots of photos on Pinterest or Instragram are using silk or dyed flowers in colors that simply don’t exist in nature. Or, flowers are used for a photo shoot that would never hold up for the entire day of a wedding. Either way, the photos you collect will help us figure out the best ways to accomplish your vision.

REFERRALS ARE BEST

Referrals from friends or your venue are always the best place to start. Following Instagram and looking at websites of prospective florists can show you a lot too. Look for consistency, creativity, level of detail, and a style that appeals to you. Narrow it down to 2-3 whose work you love, and start there. Try to get a feel for each florist’s aesthetic before you even meet.

THE B-WORD

Budget. We will have to tackle that question at some point. Navigating the costs associated with a wedding can be daunting, and most people are surprised at the cost of wedding flowers. If you search online, hundreds of articles pop up with content that can be confusing, contradictory, and even misleading. Wedding guides talk about the ‘average’ cost of wedding flowers – and it is impossible to know what they included in their calculations. Did they include DIY weddings? Personals-only weddings? Weddings in your part of the country? Then, there are at those gorgeous photos. Are they from real weddings or a styled photo shoot? Some articles suggest that you can spend $2,000 on wedding flowers but include photos overflowing with flowers that require a budget ten times that big. The important thing is that we understand that you may not know how to set your budget until after you see your first estimate.

Below is a list of our starting price points for certain popular floral items. Everything we do is customized, so we are not confined to these items, but it should help you form an idea of where the estimate may start depending on the number of people in your bridal party and the number of tables you expect at the reception.

COMMUNICATION IS KEY

Communication is key in managing everyone’s expectations. While not all wedding florists will itemize their proposals, we do. After your Initial Consultation, we will prepare a detailed proposal showing floral items, rental items, as well as delivery, setup, & strike fees. Our Event Director will be your go-to person to answer any questions and fine-tune the details.

TRUST YOUR INTUITION

When you meet with prospective florists, whether in person or virtually, take note of how the meeting made you feel. Did they listen more than talk? Your vision is the blueprint for your wedding, did they understand it? Were you asked a lot of questions? Did they offer unique ideas and suggestions? Were you excited about the possibilities? Trust is essential – and it is best for all of us if there is a connection! Trust your intuition!

At Andrew’s Garden, we love the process of creating your wedding florals – and we always aim to exceed your expectations. From the Initial Consultation onward, we know it is all about the layers and the details. That meaningful bloom in your bouquet, the sprig of rosemary at each plate, a small floral touch in an unexpected place – we will make sure you & your guests never forget how it felt to be at your wedding.
