We have a favor to ask. It’s really simple! Plaid Friday & Small Business Saturday are this week, and we would love your support! When shopping for the holidays, please support local, independent, family-owned businesses first!
We’ve all heard of Black Friday, but have you heard of PLAID FRIDAY? The idea was born in Oakland, CA in 2009, and has spread throughout the country as a way to support local, independent businesses on one of the busiest shopping days of the year! The nod to plaid represents the individual and unique threads of intertwined fabric that make up the local business community. Think about your favorite plaid-it’s colorful, warm, & comforting. Instead of the manic shopping at big box stores, enjoy a more relaxed experience in your own neighborhood. We chose Downtown Wheaton & Downtown Naperville as our shop locations for that very reason! We are surrounded by unique, neighborhood businesses-some small & some large-that all contribute to the fabric of the community where we live!
Our Andrew’s Garden Team will be celebrating small businesses this weekend with Plaid Friday & Small Business Saturday. Starting this Friday, our AG Team will be sporting their favorite plaids every Friday through the holiday shopping season. Other independent businesses in downtown Wheaton will be doing the same. Watch for the Plaid and call it out when you see it! In fact, show your support by wearing plaid too! In Downtown Naperville, watch for Plaid Bows posted outside of local, independently-owned businesses. The Downtown Naperville Alliance has made it even easier by posting a list of participating businesses HERE.

Supporting local businesses in your downtown business districts is good for all of us! Other ways to support local? Tell your friends about your favorites, post & tag your favorite shops on your social media pages, write Google reviews about your experiences, watch for events and participate, stop in and say hello on your way by even if you aren’t shopping that day, participate in events with the Downtown Wheaton Association or Downtown Naperville Alliance, buy gift cards from your favorite shop or from the downtown association! There are so many ways to support local.
